400G QSFP-DD FR4: The Enterprise "Workhorse" of 2026

Introduction: Why 400G Still Dominates the Enterprise

While the AI giants are chasing 800G and 1.6T, the standard enterprise data center and large-scale campus network have found their "sweet spot" with 400G QSFP-DD FR4.

In 2026, 400G is no longer the "new" technology¡ªit is the stable, cost-effective, and highly reliable backbone of corporate IT. The FR4 (Fiber Reach 4-wavelength) variant is particularly popular because it solves the biggest headache in data center upgrades: Cabling.


The FR4 Advantage: 2km on Duplex Fiber

Most 400G modules, like the SR8 or DR4, require complex MPO/MTP cabling (8 to 16 fibers per link). For many enterprises, their existing infrastructure is built on Duplex LC Single-Mode Fiber.

The 400G FR4 uses internal CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) to combine four 100G signals onto a single pair of fibers.
